I am Grateful for my 9–5

It was a blessing I never appreciated

I used to work a 9–5 when I was back in my home country, my job description was Teaching and Research, this is a wide spectrum that allowed me a lot of flexibility and ample time to do the things I love, my weekends were free and all in all, when it was time to be paid, everyone was paid without delay, I didn’t have a single complaint, was I grateful? I don’t think I ever thought about it.

Let’s zoom in now, to a time I am living in a foreign country as a student and I needed a job to survive due to the constant dollar giving our local African currency a severe beating, as soon as I started though, I understood that this job requires my blood to function, there is zero flexibility and the worse part of all is it is like a kind of circus, (apologies to any functioning circus) here, there is no hierarchy, it is like there is constant grasp for power by all the other staff members except me, the new recruit, hence, I am being tugged every day from all directions, I get different orders and queries from these people that I just become overwhelmed, if not for the fact that I am a little rebel, I don’t think I would have survived a day here.

I am grateful for all the privilege I got then, for the peace of mind, growth and the appreciation I used to get, and I am practicing gratitude for my 9–5 so that I will return to it soonest, because I miss all that.
